Or are jeans the expression of city pace, the code of speed, expressed by the clasping legs cladded in tight jeans, baggy jeans, shorts, dark, light, grey, flare, stonewash, low rise, ultra low rise, distressed, boot-cut. One should be amazed at the varieties of the same type. In a sense, jeans have created a static outlook within the hectic flow of city life. Hong Kong's city dwellers have long learnt to grapple with the jeany options they have. But that said, jeans, despite its varieties and options, could be an impeding style, a sneezy option too easy taken up for the sake of convenience...The result is the homogeneity of Hong Kong society. It tires the mind and slack the pace of social renewal. Why do you need a pair of jeans? Is it because you see everyone else wearing it? Do you need jeans? What can you wear without jeans? Are jeans the fullstops of what we mean by prancing around with the thin layer of cloth, bearly enough to speak for us and fill us up with the pleasure of existence? |
